The Ikarus 266 is a common subtype of the 200 model family, with a stern engine and leaf spring chassis. It functions mainly as a commuter vehicle (with 2-4-0 door layout), although in the early days there was also a city version with a 2-4-2 layout. They have accordion doors and trilex wheels. They were originally made with a 5+1, later 6+1 mechanical gearbox and a Rába D 2156 HM6U diesel engine. Its popularity can perhaps also be explained by the fact that when it was created, it was based on its predecessor, the Ikarus 55 and 66 types. Its sibling is the long-distance Ikarus 255.
