    Probably not too soon, but meanwhile you could probably use dev builds, which are actually quite stable (i've had 2-3 crashes in the last months with them, less than what i would get with stable)

    You will have to compile from source. The guide is here: https://github.com/RigsOfRods/ror-server/wiki/Compiling-server#linux Note this will compile it for RoRNet 2.45, which is only compatible with dev builds. If you need a RoRNet 2.44 server for stable RoR, Roll back to an older commit...

    I have done this once - it was fine with 3 players on LAN. I don't know how much further it can scale, but the network speed is probably the bottleneck.
