Tuning + Add-on parts
We’re introducing a brand-new vehicle tuning system with a dedicated graphical user interface, allowing for easier customization of vehicles. This is powered by the new `.addonpart` modification type, which enables seamless integration of custom parts and configurations.Dashboard changes and improvements
- Aerial HUD fixes + new mouse-hover highlights (#3224): This addresses several issues with the aerial heads-up display (HUD). It fixes the airplane dashboard's unresponsiveness to mouse inputs, resolves the chat box obstructing the bottom area of the aerial HUD even when not active, and corrects the throttle sliders detaching from the mouse cursor during quick movements. Additionally, it introduces mouse-hover highlights for all interactive elements.
- Dashboard modding (#3227): This update also adds a new modification type, `.dashboard`, which receives standard modcache treatment-such as being stored in `mods/`, recorded in the modcache, and viewable/searchable in the selector with a preview image. It also introduces configuration variables `ui_default_truck_dash` and `ui_default_boat_dash` to store the names of default dashboards, adjustable via settings.
- Fixed laggy dashboard HUD elements (3239): This update also fixes intentionally placed update skips in the dashboard HUD code that had been present for almost over a decade, causing jagged inputs. The removal of these skips results in smoother dashboard inputs without impacting FPS.
New T-menu
Several improvements have been made to the "T-menu" feature, which consolidates various vehicle information and settings into a single side-panel interface. This enhancement merges the vehicle stats side-panel (previously accessed with the 'T' hotkey), the vehicle description and commands window (accessed with 'Ctrl+T'), the on-mouse-hover vehicle buttons side panel, and the diagnostic view options from the Top Menu bar under 'Tools'. The unified interface aims to streamline user interaction by providing all relevant vehicle information and controls in one accessible location.Terrain editor changes and improvements
Several significant enhancements to the terrain editor. The primary change allows the editor to modify `*.tobj` files directly, eliminating the previous reliance on the 'logs/editor_out.log' file. This means that any changes made within the terrain editor are now immediately saved to the respective terrain object files, streamlining the editing process. However, it's important to note that this functionality is effective only when the terrain is stored in an unzipped directory (i.e., a project). If the terrain is within a zipped archive, the game will notify users via the console or chat box that the terrain is read-only, preventing direct modifications.Additionally, this update introduces a fallback icon for special objects like race checkpoints and places of interest when no specific icon is assigned. However, this change led to an unintended issue where all objects in the overview map displayed this fallback icon, as reported in issue #3221.
Overall, these changes aim to provide a more intuitive and efficient experience for users engaging in terrain editing within the simulator.
Asset packs
This introduces a new modification type, `.assetpack`. This enhancement allows user to bundle multiple assets into a single package (or pack), simplying the distribution and installation of mods.Gadgets
This introduces a new modification type, `gadget`. Gadgets are scripts wrapped as modcache entries with the objecting of being able to distribute community-created scripts via the repository.Other notable changes

Other changes
As previously mentioned, there are several changes (~150+ pull requests with 10,000+ lines of code changed), ranging from minor enhancements to major fixes. Overall, much of what was promised in 2022.12 is only halfway to the finish line, but after a full release, we hope to make changes to how we handle each iteration to improve the speed at which we deliver releases and ensure a more efficient development cycle.Since this is pre-release software, you should expect new or known bugs and incomplete functionality. We do not provide support for pre-release software on the community forums or the Discord community server. If you choose to run pre-release software, you do so at your own risk.
If you are participating in the Insiders program, promptly reporting new bugs related to upcoming features is essential to ensure they are addressed before major releases. You can report bugs or issues on the GitHub issues page.
