I've modded already made mods with a text editor, but I have not created a working steering system yet.

Well, a Ford Fusion would not be good for drag racing becuase it is FWD.

You could make it RWD or something, plus its rigs of rods: logic doesnt need to apply

I've tried to make it the right size and weight and managed to completely break what I had with no backups, I have to start over the N/B structure.

hmm well dont worry too much, i would try the legacy style, its simple, old fasioned and fairly easy to execute

I could probably make a flexbody car, if someone made some of the models for me.
