well what vehicles are you trying to use?

Those include: Thomas HDX, Hamburg Fire Truck Pack, KME Predator and some vehicles made by Gabester
Is "Engines spawn running" enabled in settings (General tab)?

I have the same problem and I have tried both engine spawn on and engine spawn off

Yes. Try deleting RoR.cfg (from Documents\Rigs of Rods 0.4\config) and see if the issue still persists.
no its not a bug with 0.4.8. Its a problems with the people installing the game.

I uninstalled the game and now can not reinstall the game
You download the installer. Click next, next, next, install, done. And open the game. What is so difficult?
