What is the N/B?

I don't know if this belongs here but I keep hearing about the N/B. What is it? Is it the thing that makes the thing go forward or backward? I know I sound dumb but I'm just curious

N/B stands for Node/Beam, it is the skeleton of every moving object/vehicle in RoR, shown by pressing "K" in-game.
